This is a toughie for me. Allow an off-topic, non-crafty mini-rant and link. Or skip it and move on.
I won't vote for him because I disagree with his politics.
But I also feel like I need to vouch for him. Co-religionists and all, and it's obvious to all that his (my) religion is holding him back among certain conservatives, and that makes me crazy.
Forefront in my newly-blogging-again-tonight-anyway mind because I just read this great little article by a used-to-be-Mormon, which is a state perfect for the purpose because she (a) knows what she is talking about and (b) isn't feeling hurt or defensive. Just clarification-motivated.

I don't think it's his religion that is holding him back, but more likely his corrupt behavior. It shouldn't matter whither someone shares your religion as long as they have made decisions in the past that you agree with. After all, many people claim to be religious when they really aren't in their heart or in the way they live.
Having grown up in the state considered the "buckle of the Bible Belt", I know all about this tremendous bias against Mormons having experienced it first hand on several occasions. From elementary age children on up they are actively taught many falsehoods about mormons. Many people who would never, ever vote for him because he is a 'mormon' and mormons are not christians in their view. Even if you meet all of their qualifications for what a christian is, being mormon negates all of that. This drives me crazy, but it is true. That said I won't vote for Romney either. If anything my shared faith with his is not a positive in his favor. Thanks for the good article though and for your thoughts.
Robin: True statements...but Mitt is still coming up squeaky-clean, life-wise. Politically, well, that still depends on whether you agree with him.
I wouldn't vote for Romney, either, because he is opposite my political leanings. But I do think that bigots don't like his Mormonism in the same that other bigots don't like Obama's blackness. Unfair in both instances. And I'm neither black nor Mormon. I just believe in voting/not voting for a person for reasons other than religious or racial.
