decade

My first baby turned 10 this week. And, without a complaint, spent the day driving to Philly with me, then to southern Virginia with her dad and friend Greg en route to Nashville (make that Dr. dad: finally graduated from Vandy yesterday!). We had a little celebration at the hospital with our presents and individually-wrapped-so-Marian-could-have-one-and-we-could-pretend-to-blow-out-candles-in-her-room Hostess cupcakes. But I did put hers on a lovely cupcake stand (a purple petunia original, of course), with a celebration candle kid, so that's lucky ;).
The child life specialist made a sweet sign and hauled in the music therapist and lots of nurses in hats to sing to her & they gifted her generously (hat, gift cards, one of those name-a-star animals). Marian's art therapist helped her make a birthday girl puzzle for her, too.
We made crepes for her birthday breakfast, and on the last one I decided to light a candle, since she wouldn't be getting a candle in the hospital. And what does Audrey exclusively put on her crepes? Powdered sugar. Too much powdered sugar. And a fine mist it makes when heartily blown with a wish!
